Core standards for insulated power cords and cables

The current density of the copper core insulated wire of the power cord can be selected as 2-5 A/mm: when the current through the wire is not greater than 40A. The current density is 5-4A/mm; when the wire current is 41-100 A The current density is 3-2 A/m; when the wire current is greater than 100 A, the current density is 2A/mm (in this case, check the product manual to determine the cross-sectional area of the core).

The nominal cross-sectional area of the core of the insulated wire (in mm) series are: 1, 1.5, 2.5, 4, 6, 10, 16, 25, 35, 50, 70, 95, 120, 150, 185, 240, etc. If the calculated result is that the required core cross-sectional area of the power cord is less than 6mm, considering the mechanical strength, the cross-sectional area of the core should be 10mm.

The electrical parameters of XLPE insulated cables mainly include effective resistance (AC resistance), inductance, insulation resistance and working capacitance. These parameters determine the transmission capacity of the cable, and other properties of the cable are determined by these parameters or calculated by them. As long as the characteristic parameters of the XLPE insulated cable material (such as dielectric constant, resistivity, etc.) and geometric shape are certain, these parameters will be determined accordingly. But before understanding these electrical parameters, one must have a clear understanding of the electric field distribution of XLPE insulated cables, and understand the similarities and differences between it and oil-paper cables, in order to facilitate the use of XLPE insulated cables in the future.
